The Western Diet (WD), prevalent in modern societies, is linked to chronic diseases, depression, and low-grade inflammation. This project investigates whether WD-induced inflammation may lead to neuroinflammation, causing neuronal damage, accelerating cellular aging, and increasing vulnerability to depression and Alzheimer’s disease. Using an animal model exposed to WD for 3 months, we will measure inflammatory and aging markers and assess anxiety-like, cognitive, and depressive behaviors. This study aims to elucidate the role of diet-induced inflammation in the pathophysiology of depression and its connection to Alzheimer’s disease, highlighting nutrition as a critical risk factor.
