Chair 1997 – 1998

In 1997-1998 the chair was held by Paul SEABRIGHT, Reader in Microeconomics Theory and Developments and Senior Research Fellow in Economics at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, on the recommendation of Professor André Sapir, President of the Institute for European studies.

The subject of the chair was “Competition between Firms and Competition between Governments in the European Union: Theory and Evidence”.

The opening lecture, delivered on March 26, 1998, was entitled “Rigorous Bureaucrats or Robber Barons? How do governments in Europe Compete?”.
