Our Alumnus Roy Lavendomme is one of the two young researchers in chemistry who received the 2022 Incentive Award from the C.G.B.-C.B.B. (Management Committee of the Bulletin of the Belgian Chemical Societies). The award ceremony took place in October on the occasion of the CRF-ChemCYS 2022 (Chemical Research in Flanders – Chemistry Conference for Young Scientists).
Following his PhD in Chemistry at the Université libre de Bruxelles, in 2016 Roy was granted a Wiener-Anspach fellowship which allowed him to carry out two years of research at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Nitschke (Department of Chemistry).
He then worked as a BOF postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Pascal Van Der Voort at Ghent University, developing new structures and preparation methods of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), i.e. solid crystalline polymers, often porous, with a wide range of applications such as the purification of chemicals, photo- and electrocatalysis, pollutant removal, or as semiconductors in organic electronics.
Since November 2022, Roy is back at ULB as an FNRS research fellow, working on the selective synthesis of pillararenes in the Laboratoire de Chimie organique.
