Leçon Oxford 2014 – 2015

Le 1er juin 2015 Mathias Dewatripont, Directeur de la Banque nationale de Belgique et Professeur à la Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, a donné une conférence intitulée « Which protection for bank liabilities ? » à l’Université d’Oxford. Il était accueilli par le Professeur Colin Mayer (Saïd Business School).

Abstract

The lecture will start with a brief history of banking regulation, deregulation and crisis management in the last 100 years. It will in particular focus on an evaluation of the cost of bank bailouts. It will then discuss the regulatory trend since the 2007-2008 crisis. Particular attention will be devoted to the EU Banking Recovery and Resolution Directive, and its potential impact on financial stability. The lecture will end with a more general discussion on the tradeoff between insurance and incentives in banking regulation.
