Presentation

This study will investigate whether plasma biomarkers of neuroinflammation and neuroglial injury are associated with poor 6-month outcomes in patients with status epilepticus (SE), particularly its refractory form (RSE). SE is a serious neurological emergency with high morbidity and mortality, and current clinical tools poorly predict refractoriness or outcome. We aim to enroll 150 patients (90 included so far), collecting plasma samples during the first 72 hours and up to 14 days. Clinical data include demographics, comorbidities, SE characteristics, and functional status. Plasma proteins will be analyzed using the NULISAseq® CNS panel to quantify 120 inflammation and brain injury markers. We will assess associations between biomarkers and functional outcomes at 6 months, SE refractoriness, and duration. Results will inform mechanisms of SE refractoriness and support future biomarker-guided therapeutic strategies.
